I must admit, there was a period of time in which I wasn’t very interested in the trance subgenre. I’d blame this on the lack of attending live trance acts, as I was pretty enthralled in the progressive house genre for quite some time. This all changed a number of months ago when I went to see Armin van Buuren at Ruby Skye in San Francisco. Although I’d seen Armin a few times at some of the larger festivals (EDC 2010 in Los Angeles, for example) this was on a completely different level. Many of you have experienced this similar phenomenon. The attitude at a festival is much different than that of a small, intimate club setting, and if you have been blessed enough to see aArmin in this setting, you know what I’m talking about. He truly feeds off the crowd, and plays deep into the night (if I remember correctly he played for 4 hours). I don’t care what DJ Mag says, Armin van Buuren is the worlds best DJ.
While Armin is likely to turn anyone into a member of the #trancefamily almost instantly, some of my favorite trance productions have been coming from Norin & Rad. They’ve really taken off with producing tracks that, to me, seem to blend the big room sound with trance. So when they all come together, I can’t help but post their track, which aired during ASOT 556.
